Welcome to Kimberley Pre-School Playgroup

We are proud to be the longest-running preschool playgroup in the Kimberley area, recently celebrating an incredible 50 years of supporting local families. Our journey began back in 1968 at Kimberley Parish Hall, before moving in 1983 to our current home at Kettlebrook Lodge — a purpose-built space designed with children at the heart.
At Kimberley Pre-School Playgroup, we provide up to 30 hours of childcare for children aged 2 years and over, right up until they start school. We know every family’s needs are different, so our sessions are flexible and affordable, and there’s no requirement for your child to be potty trained before joining us.
We’re also delighted to offer free funded places for eligible 2, 3 and 4-year-olds, making high-quality early years education accessible to all.

Funded sessions are available for:
Full days (9am – 3pm or 9.30am – 3pm), 5 days a week (term time only)

Our team of five long-standing staff members bring a wealth of experience and dedication to every child’s journey. Each of us holds a Level 3 childcare qualification, and together we provide a safe, supportive and nurturing environment.
We take safeguarding and wellbeing seriously — all staff are trained in safeguarding, paediatric first aid, and food hygiene. We’re also proud to have two Level 3 qualified Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCOs), ensuring that every child’s individual needs are understood and supported.

Our Sessions
Learning Through Play
Small world
Our children discover so much about the world around them through play — driving cars, looking after families in the dolls’ houses, creating toy villages, exploring with dinosaurs and running farms. These experiences support their curiosity, teamwork, confidence and imagination as they grow.
Construction
In our construction area, children enjoy building and connecting — from stacking wooden blocks to creating with Lego. These activities encourage their creativity, problem-solving and teamwork, while giving them the confidence to explore new ideas and bring their imaginations to life.
Outdoor Play
Our outdoor play area is a wonderful space for children to explore and learn. With a safe, enclosed garden and a covered area for free-flow play, children enjoy sand and water play, riding bikes, driving cars, playing in the playhouse, climbing on the frame, using pavement chalk, and discovering a huge variety of other toys. Weather permitting, they can also explore our small wooded area, where they learn about nature and enjoy forest school experiences — all while developing their curiosity, confidence and love of the outdoors.
Shape and numbers
Our early learning area is always bustling with activity! Children enjoy exploring shapes, colours, letters and numbers through fun games, puzzles and jigsaws. These hands-on activities help develop their problem-solving skills, early literacy and numeracy, and curiosity, all while having fun with friends.
Language
Language and communication are an important part of development. Our children can explore books at any time in our cosy book corner, and they love joining in with stories and sing-songs together as a group at the end of every session. These activities help build their listening, speaking and early literacy skills, while encouraging a love of reading and sharing stories with friends.
Home corner
Our home corner and role play area is always full of imagination and fun. The children love taking on different roles — whether it’s running the shop, helping with the 999 emergency services, or caring for animals at the vets. But their favourite is definitely the house, where they can look after the babies and dress up in all sorts of costumes. These activities help build their confidence, social skills and creativity as they step into the world of pretend play.
Physical
Our physical play areas are full of energy and fun! Children love to balance, jump, climb, throw, kick, and explore all kinds of big movements. With a wide range of indoor and outdoor equipment, they can develop their coordination, strength, confidence and teamwork while enjoying active, exciting play every day.
Creative art and design
In our creative art and design area, children love expressing themselves through a variety of activities. Painting and cooking are always big favourites, but they also enjoy sticking, crafting and lots of tactile play. Our mark-making table gives them the chance to practise early writing, drawing and colouring skills — building confidence while exploring their imagination.

Our team of five long-standing, Level 3 qualified childcare professionals are trained in paediatric first aid, safeguarding and food hygiene, and include two Level 3 SENCOs. All of us are parents, and three of us are grandparents — so we truly understand children, their needs, and what it takes to give them the best possible start.
We offer flexible sessions, designed to fit around family life, and our competitive prices for non-funded children make high-quality childcare accessible to everyone.
